The ladder upwards

From the beginning of time, we all have been raised in a way which aims at normalising the “taken-for-granted” approach in life. You start off as a kid in play-school (which btw is the best time of your life, even if some beg to differ), you struggle to keep up during your school, getting the right grades, running in the race trying to be as fast as the others, deciding on subjects, narrowing our capabilities, getting the best degree on the face of the earth and finally working at a job which pays well enough to cover your expenses and luxuries. Well, does it end there?

I am 23 years old, maybe am too young and its not my place to make the declaration that am about to make in this article or maybe am not, however I found a need to say this because thats what am feeling right now. I have been a very studious student, no my parents never policed me into it, I chose this way of life. I have always wanted to achieve the best, to reach the highest level, to learn the most so much so that even now that I have gotten into a good firm post completing my Master’s, all I want to do is learn more. And no this learning is not restricted to just learning how the firm works, or how the industry that I am interested in functions, it involves anything and everything outside of it.

This ladder in my life, which aims at always climbing, trying to reach the mirage of satisfaction and success never ends. And to say the least, am glad about it. This is not constrained to someone into academics, corporate, sports, theatre or numerous other well thought careers, this speaks to the dedication and motivation to do the best you can, be it for yourself, your family or your future generation. The point I was trying to make earlier was that despite this ultimate aim given to us from the beginning, to reach a stage where we can be responsible for ourselves and our dependents, all of it is plainly false for that stage is not satisfactory, and you would never want to just halt at that station.

I still wish to learn more, I don’t want to stop studying, I want to do multiple courses in this lifetime, without people questioning how one helps the other. Life is too short to be satisfied too soon, my urge to all the school-goers is to not base your entire life around this aim of earning enough to fulfill your wishes(dont run after the money, let the money run after you), because trust me the amount of motivation this gives you right now will also give you the discomfort later in life of not being content with it. Take it as a challenge to reach here but not the end of life. Do everything, study anything, dont restrict yourself to a single course or career, the world is striving to get the best out of themselves, but also remember best is the enemy of good, and comfort zone is a dangerous zone to be.

Cheers!
